London & SE Plate Final
Played at London Skolars
St Ives Roosters 26 Sussex Merlins 18
Admission Free
Refreshments - none bar closed
Attendance - around 50
Programme - none
A great day out for the Roosters as we won our first silverware for a very long time. It was a very tough old school game as both sides gave as good as they got and as the cockneys say the claret was flowing on both sides.
We had a great day out and I know the RL have very few staff and very little money but there were a few things that could have been done a bit better.
There were 4 finals on today but:
1. The finals received little publicity
2. The bar was closed - not the Skolars or RL fault but come on council - very poor
3. An aftermatch buffet was supposed to be arranged at the Lordship pub in Wood Green. Lets just say it was an uncomfortable atmosphere and very much a locals pub. We didn't receive any buffet
4. No programmes - the RL could have made some very easy money here and why not a raffle of some kind to raise funds?
5. The Roosters were handed the Regional Championship Shield for winning the London & SE Plate? Only one name on it as a winner - Midlands. We had to give it back straight away so the old engravings could be taken off and new ones put on. Real shame we couldn't take it back to St Ives.
6. No medals for the winners - the RL decided to give the players a case of lager to share. No thanks as our coach was already full of various beverages for the trip back.
7. Could the Skolars not have done some form of promotion for all the finalists for one of their home games?
Still a great day out and one that will be remembered for a long time at our club.
